Income Based Exemptions

Habersham County currently has 2 income-based exemptions.  They are the EL3 100% Disabled Exemption and the EL2 Age 65 Total School Tax Exemption.

To be eligible for this exemption, your adjusted gross income must be below $12,000.  We do not count Social Security or any retirement you may have contributed to while you were employed.

We do require you to submit your income tax return when you first make application.  After that, we do audit every 5 years and our office will notify you each time you are to be audited.

Please note: if you file an extension on your income tax return, you must submit the paperwork indicating you have filed an extension to have your homestead approved.

If your income is over the $12,000 limit, we do have an Age 65 Homestead Exemption available that you will receive instead of the Total School Tax Exemption.  This exemption is known as the EL1, and it will generally save you around $250.
