Public Utilities Department

Habersham County water bills only; no city payments accepted here.

The Habersham County Public Utilities Department is responsible for planning, operation and maintenance of the county's water system.

The department's mission is to deliver quality potable water for customers in unincorporated Habersham County. Our mission includes providing these services in conformance with state and federal regulations in an environmentally sensitive, cost conscious manner utilizing contemporary quality processes to meet customer requirements.

The County purchases most of its water from the City of Toccoa. We collect two samples each month and take them to the Toccoa Lab for bacteria testing. The EPD has set regulations which all utilities have to adhere to or they will be fined. We send to EPD a required report on the test results received from the Toccoa Lab.

Prospective water customers may pick up applications at the office of the Public Utilities Department or may call the office requesting that one be mailed to them. At this time, applicants must live in the area where water lines are already laid.

The tap fee is $900 plus $100 deposit per meter.

Water Bill Payments

Bills may be paid at Habersham Bank may be mailed or taken to the Public Utilities Department, paid online, or paid via our toll-free number.

If the office is closed, there is a box next to the door for drop payments. If mailing, please be sure to mail it in enough time that it reaches the Public Utilities Department by the 15th of the month. You may now have your Public Utilities Department payment automatically paid with a bank draft. To set this up, please come by the Public Utilities Department.

All payments must be received by the Public Utilities Department by the last business day on or before the due date.

Note* If you live in one of these communities and have questions about water, please contact the appropriate number above. However in case of after hour or weekend emergencies such as main-line water leaks, etc. please call 706-778-3911. The 911 dispatch will then contact someone to check out the emergency.
