Moving a Mobile Home

Before a mobile/manufactured home may be moved into, out of, or within Habersham County, a moving (relocation) permit must be obtained. Some restrictions apply. To find out if your mobile home needs or qualifies for a moving permit, check these guidelines:

Where is the mobile home now?

Is the date of manufacture of the mobile home seven (7) years or less than today's date?

  • Within Habersham County, to be moved to another location here.  Is the mobile home a 1976 or newer?
    • Yes: A moving permit is necessary to move this mobile home.
    • No: A moving permit is necessary to move this mobile home, but it may be obtained only if a variance is granted by the Commissioners. For more information, contact the Building and Planning Department.

  • Within Habersham County, to be moved outside of the county?
    • A moving permit is necessary to move this mobile home. Note: Be sure to check the regulations of the county where the mobile home will be relocated to determine if it may be moved into that county.

  • Outside of Habersham County, to be moved to a location here?
    • Yes: A moving permit is necessary to move this mobile home.
    • No: A moving permit is necessary to move this mobile home, but it may be obtained only if a variance is granted by the Commissioners. For more information, contact the Building and Planning Department.

  • Outside of Habersham County, passing through only?
    • No moving permit from Habersham County is needed. Check with the county of origin.

To receive a permit, the following documents are needed:

  • Building permit
  • Septic tank permit
  • Variance (if needed, see guide)
  • Title in current owner's name or application for title made at the same time (title fee must be paid, along with any penalty fees, if applicable)

Along with ONE of the following:

  • Proof that taxes are paid, such as a tax receipt (Note: All previous and current taxes must be paid), or
  • If the mobile home is new, an invoice showing a date of manufacture after January 1 of the current year, or
  • If the mobile home is new, form PT-41, available from the mobile home dealer if the mobile home has been returned for taxes on inventory

Titles may be applied for at the Tax Commissioner's office. Building permits (and variance applications, if needed) may be obtained from the Building and Planning Department. Septic tank permits are issued by the Environmental Health Division of the Health Department.

The Permit Fee is $15 and is subject to change at any time.
