Salary: $8.26 per hour Pay Grade: 5A

Major Duties:
The Habersham County Parks, Recreation & Aquatics Department is currently accepting applications for Certified American Red Cross Lifeguards (or an approved Nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification that must be approved by the HCPRD prior to employment) to work at the Ruby Fulbright ¡§Indoor¡¨ Aquatic Center. This facility offers one recreation/therapeutic and one eight lane competition lap pool.
Lifeguards are needed to cover a wide range of hours from 6:00am to 8:00pm Monday-Friday and 7:45am to 3:00pm on Saturdays. Occasional shifts may include holidays, split shifts and early mornings. Lifeguards will assist management staff in the overall operation of the facility as needed. In addition to monitoring activities in swimming areas, lifeguards will safeguard the facility and enforce safety rules and regulations, provide excellent customer service, prepare written information relating to: swim lessons, class registrations, reports, attendance, maintenance, check lists, etc. Lifeguards may work in any aspect of the aquatic programs. Weekly hours will vary and attendance is required during staff in-service trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
„h Perform water rescues and provide CPR, first aid and rescue breathing as needed
„h Instruct and/or assist with instruction of swimming lessons of all ages and abilities by following a structured lesson plan
„h Perform accurate cash register operations and ability to count money using addition and subtraction
„h Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone
„h Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed
„h Assume a professional attitude and appearance at all times while on duty
„h Considerately and patiently enforce facility rules to provide a safe environment and maintain order in swimming areas
„h Perform daily cleaning of pool, deck, locker rooms, restrooms, trash receptacles, lobby, and other areas as assigned
„h Check and apply pool chemicals as needed
„h Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Lifeguard and/or Recreation Director/Athletics Specialist/Admin Asst.

Education/Experience:
Must be at least 16 years old, a valid work permit is required if you have not graduated high school or received a GED at time of hire. Experience working with the public and prior cash handling experience is desired. Possess the ability to be self-motivated and work independently and/or in a team environment. Prior experience as a lifeguard is desirable. Must have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
This position requires proficient swimming ability, proper application of rescue and first aid technique, the ability to properly extract victims from the pool to the deck, and the ability to lift and carry at least 25 lbs. Must be able to sit, stand, jump, walk, bend, stoop, pull, push, balance, reach and the ability to use fingers and hands. This position may require the ability to operate equipment such as a computer, keyboard, cash register and various office equipment.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Required American Red Cross certifications (before start of employment) or an approved Nationally Recognized lifeguard certification (approved by HCPRD prior to employment), Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED. In addition to the required certifications, the American Red Cross WSI (Water Safety Instructor Certification) is preferred. This position may involve driving to events as a representative of the department at district and state events. The successful candidate must pass a Department of Justice Live Fingerprint Scan, Background/Reference Check, Screenings for Alcohol, Drug and Tuberculosis prior to the start of employment.

Major Duties: This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operation of the Public Works Department, including Road Department, Water Department, Airport, and Landfill.

o    Develops, updates, and implements department policies and procedures.

o    Develops and administers long- and short-range plans for the department; reviews and updates department goals and objectives.

o    Coordinates and oversees department functions and activities to ensure compliance and consistency with department goals and objectives.

o    Performs human resource functions for the department including hiring, training, counseling, evaluating, and disciplining staff; assists division heads with same.

o    Schedules, assigns, and monitors the work of department personnel.

o    Supervises and instructs employees on work methods, procedures and standards related to their assignments.

o    Plans employees’ work schedules; approves vacation and leave requests.

o    Reviews road construction and maintenance work to ensure compliance with state specifications.

o    Makes on-site inspections of work in progress.

o    Patrols roads to detect necessary repairs and improvements, including assuring that road signs are properly installed.

o    Receives phone calls from the general public and provides information as requested.

o    Develops the proposed annual departmental operating budget and presents to County Manager; monitors expenditures under the current budget.

o    Writes specifications for road construction and maintenance jobs.

o    Monitors and reviews the operations and activities of the landfill and recycling center to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accepted procedures.

o    Oversees county right-of-way program.

o    Assists County Manager in planning and scheduling construction projects.

o    Seeks bids for road construction and maintenance jobs from outside contractors; submits bids to County Manager.

o    Provides assistance and recommendations to local, state, and federal employees and departments regarding department functions and projects.

o    Prepares reports regarding department activities, functions, and projects on a regular basis and as requested.

o    Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in civil engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
