HCMC Growing to Meet Community NeedHCMC is currently undergoing a $38.6 million expansion. The plans call for adding 78,000 additional square feet to the existing hospital and renovation of 14,000 square feet of existing departments.According to President Dick Dwozan, the project “represents a significant step forward in meeting the growing demand of healthcare services in our community. HCMC has long recognized the need for expansion, especially when it comes to our overcrowded emergency room, which was built to serve 12,000 patients annually but serves approximately 20,000. Our goal is to ease the current overcrowding while anticipating future population growth.” The new ER will include eight additional treatment rooms for a total of 17, a new-advanced triage area, a parking garage and a helipad.
Additionally, the outpatient surgery department will triple in size to accommodate a 24-bed, all private room facility with adjacent space for future expansion. Also, the expansion project includes a quick stop (convenience) center for laboratory, x-rays, EKGs and pre-operative visits, a new hospital main entrance, and new waiting areas. Hospital officials submitted the CON application to the State on Dec. 7 and hope to start facility construction in the spring with completion by December 2008.
