At about 1,540 feet above sea level, Mount Airy, founded on March 3, 1874, is the highest point on the Southern Railway. Each year this city of approximately 1,200 inhabitants receives many visitors who come to swim, fish, hike, or camp in the Lake Russell Recreation Area.
City Hall is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 2-5 p.m and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. City Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. and the planning and zoning meeting is the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. Both meetings are at City Hall.
