The mission of the Georgia Forestry Commission is to provide leadership, service, and education in the protection and conservation of Georgia's forest resources. Habersham County is in District 2 which serves Northeast Georgia. Shannon Dean is the chief ranger for Habersham, Rabun and White Counties. Habersham County covers 178,000 acres, of which 124,900 acres, or 70.17 percent, is covered by forest.
