Habersham County believes education is the key to an effective 911 system. Adults and children, if properly educated, can use it as an effective life-saving tool.

Here are some suggestions on what a child should know when calling the emergency number:

His address
His phone number
His first and last names
The name and phone number of a neighbor or relative we can call for more information, if needed.

Even though we encourage teaching your children to know this information, you must also clearly explain to them that it should not be given to strangers, and that 911 is to be called ONLY in an emergency. (To determine what constitutes an emergency, see "911: To Call or Not to Call" in this section. It is a good idea to permanently post this information by your phone.
